In lieu of the COVID-19 pandemic, students across America are trying to find different ways to stay busy during the quarantine. The list of possibilities is endless: learn a new language, acclimate yourself with adobe suite, get in shape, and many more. Don’t let COVID-19 affect your ability to better yourself. AMA’s Digital Marketing Committee put together four ideas on how to make the most of your time at home.

Not sure what to do with your spare time? Here is some advice from a graduating senior - as cheesy as it sounds, make a “Baylor Bucket List.” The coronavirus crisis has made a lot of us realize that life as we know it can come to a halt in the blink of an eye. Take the opportunity once school starts again to do some things that you always wanted to do before graduation, and start making that list now. Maybe you’re in a club on campus - run for an officer position! If you’re not in a club, try joining one! If you’ve never been to a Dr. Pepper hour or a Baylor multicultural event, go to one. Do things you never thought you’d be interested in - mentor a younger student, eat at a local restaurant you haven’t been to, or go to a concert for a band you’ve never heard of. Take the opportunity for personal growth and volunteer at least once. Plan ahead now, and while we can’t guarantee it will change your life, it might do just that.

In order to stay active and healthy during quarantine, students can create a personalized weekly workout schedule to keep them motivated. Just because the gyms are closed doesn’t mean you can’t get moving! There are many ways to stay fit and active during quarantine, such as creating an at-home workout area, doing bodyweight type exercises, running or walking around the neighborhood, or even swimming in your pool (if you have one). Students could pick one or two of these options and create a weekly schedule that plans out what workouts to do each day. You could mix it up and do hard workouts with easier workouts in between, set specific off days for rest, or stick to one simple workout each day! This plan can help students to get used to a schedule that makes their days seem more structured while improving their health at the same time! Working out a few days a week can improve mental health, reduce stress, and increase self-confidence! Staying active also encourages people to get more rest, eat better, and stick to a routine. All of these results can improve a students’ quarantine experience and take advantage of some of the extra time on our hands!

If you’re a student that is looking for an opportunity to make money from the comfort of your room, look no further. Investing in stocks in a recession-proof way to put your money to work. In March of 2020, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) dropped more than 8000 points, more than 25% at its lowest point, due to the implications of Covid-19. The share prices of most companies during this fall have been comparatively lower now than throughout their history, making this the opportune time to buy low with the goal of selling high.

Investing in stocks requires a willingness to develop analytical skills, read and understand how current events/political policies affect the stock market and make firm decisions about when to put money in and take money out.

The stock market is not reserved for students with business degrees, either. People who are politically knowledgeable about laws and regulations that affect how American businesses operate on a national and international level may be able to trade successfully. Workers in the Healthcare industry may have a deeper understanding of the progression of drugs that are on track to hit the market which greatly increases the share prices of healthcare companies.

In order to invest, opening an account with a stockbroker such as Fidelity, TD Ameritrade, Ally Invest, or any of the other brokerage companies is a good first step. Once your account has been opened and money is transferred from your bank into the account, you’ll be ready to invest!

All of these methods will keep you busy during this uncertain time. Take charge and become the best version of yourself while under quarutine.

Are you stuck in an endless loop of time with no idea how to spend it? If you answered yes, then I know exactly how you feel and you should give this a read. If you answered no, well why not give this a read still. With so much time more time on our hands this is a great time to explore passions that you normally may not have had the opportunity for. I discovered I had a passion for baking and that it would help pass the time by as well as create an opportunity to make delicious snacks. Along with the help of my sister we were able to make a business that we hope on building more when we return to normalcy.

Some tips for getting started with your passion

1. Don’t limit yourself! Just think about yourself and what makes you happy or what you enjoy. For myself I really enjoy eating sweets and making them added to all of the fun!

2. If you find yourself with multiple ideas add them together! My business right not is concentrated on macaroons but when I first started I was making chocolate lava cakes! My sister and I are now working on ways to combine her macaroons with my lava cakes!

Some tips for starting a business

3. Outreach! Get your friends involved immediately! With our first batch of macaroons we gave them all to our friends to try so we could get an idea of the best flavors and also know what we could do to improve. This will also help as we can ask them to help support our business and get outreach!

4. Social media! How often do you find yourself on Instagram or Snapchat or Twitter or Facebook to name a few? Social media is center of most of our attention right now as we are practicing physical distancing so get a page up and start following your friends and neighbors in your vicinity to let the people know what you are doing!

Take advantage of your time right now! How often will you have an opportunity to do something you enjoy and possibly turn it into a profitable business one day? Even if you don’t want to go the business route exploring all of your passions can help you know yourself better. So stop tanning and get thinking.

We hope you take some of our ideas to heart, dive down deep, and discover something new and exciting. Life is hard right now but we will get through it.
